Benefits of uPVC windows and doors

Windows are an integral part of any building structure. They provide light, fresh air and a view. But that is not all. Windows are receiving a lot of attention in our quest for energy efficiency and energy conservation. Buildings are one of the major users of energy. In summer we cool our living spaces and in winter they have to be heated so that we can be comfortable. One of the main areas of heat transfer and energy loss is via the window frame and glazing.

uPVC windows and doors were originally used for their low maintenance, security and whole-life costings. However, it is the energy saving potential of uPVC window frames which make them very attractive. The uPVC frames are designed in such a way that they incorporate multi-chambers, reducing heat transfer and resulting in improved thermal performance. The Tritec system can be used with single or double glazing up to 32mm glass to improve the energy efficiency of the window.

During the manufacturing process the corners of the uPVC window and door units are fusion welded which physically seals the entire frame chamber, thus providing a totally sealed enclosure. Internal support ribs and cavities for the insertion of steel or aluminium reinforcing significantly increases the strength of the completed unit. Therefore the window or door frame is strong and draught proof.

uPVC window frames have developed to such a degree that an extremely wide range of designs are available, capable of satisfying most architectural criteria, be it top hung, casement, sliding or fixed windows. They form part of a huge industry worldwide and are used extensively in Europe due to their thermal efficiency.  In the UK the PVC market share is over 70%, giving an indication of the thermal efficiency and durability of PVC window and door systems. A variety of doors are available to complement the window range. REHAU offers french, residential, in-line sliding and folding stacking doors limited to a maximum height of 2.1m

Energy saving is not the only advantage of REHAU uPVC windows and doors. uPVC windows and doors have a long lifecycle and require little maintenance, thus PVC has a low impact on the environment. Added to this, PVC is an ideal polymer for recycling. Waste cut-offs and post-use PVC windows are used in REHAU factories in Europe for the manufacture of new uPVC profiles. In South Africa waste cut-offs are used as regrind in the manufacture of locally produced PVC products. Furthermore, uPVC windows and doors have sound dampening characteristics and improved security performance.

REHAU's uPVC windows and door systems provide a straightforward and cost-effective way of meeting both market and legislative demands for energy efficient buildings.

The range of features built into the REHAU Tritec system has been engineered with the focus on maximum efficiency and performance. This includes the option of fixing hardware into steel for improved technical performance and superior levels of security, and positive friction-stay location to reduce the strain on screws and hinges.

There is also a large reinforcement chamber within the profile which carries a very effective steel reinforcement offering larger windows with optimum performance and a 17/18mm stack height which offers more space for fitting heavy-duty hinges in these large windows.
